Course Content and Format
The online course offers the same up-to-date, comprehensive, evidence-based content and strong focus on clinical counseling and assessment skills that are the hallmark of the in-person LCTC, but delivered in the safety and comfort of the home. The online LCTC is a self-paced online course presented in an engaging and energetic format through videos, self-check questions, and competency verification. The course should take 95 hours to complete, but participants have up to 6 months to complete it. Participants can stop and start throughout the course.
Office Hours
Faculty hold twice-weekly virtual office hours to answer additional questions for online participants. Participants can submit questions in advance or ask questions during the office hours in the chat feature of the program. There is value in hearing others’ questions and perspectives and these meetings provide an opportunity for that. Office hours are recorded and are available within the course for a week after the live session, in case participants were unable to join us at the scheduled time. Additionally, frequently asked questions are logged and labeled by topic within the course, so that students can revisit and review the questions at their convenience.
Practice Quizzes for Lactation Counseling
A series of three practice quizzes is available for purchase to ease anxiety around taking exams and to prepare oneself for the multiple-choice format. Each of the quizzes includes 100 multiple choice questions. Each of the quizzes can only be taken once, and participants will see their score, but will not be able to see which questions were marked as incorrect. These quizzes can be purchased at the time of registration, or participants can call our office at 508-888-8044 M-F 9am-4pm Eastern time during the course, or up to four months after completing it. Access to the quizzes becomes available as participants approach the end of the course. It is important to note that signing up for these practice quizzes does not sign you up to take the CLC© Exam.
Online CLC© Exam
A remotely-proctored CLC© exam is now available from the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice. Participants will have 6 months from the date of course completion to sit for the exam. The exam lasts up to three hours and will require internet access and a computer with a functioning video camera/webcam and audio. For more information about the CLC Exam, please see www.alpp.org.
